Commitment to innovation.

Fabio Ferrari

HL_FAR e HL_IMP Area Coordinator

Your scientific journey.

In high school, I studied at the Gallini Agricultural Technical Institute in Voghera (near Milan, Italy). My choice of school was influenced by my inclination towards science subjects and by my passion for agriculture as my parents had a small family farm.

As I continued with my studies, I realized that science subjects would be my life. Studying Biological Sciences - majoring in molecular science - at the University of Pavia was a fantastic compromise that allowed me to study structure, properties, and chemical reactions of molecules. I practiced in a biochemical laboratory for almost five years, until I got a PhD in Pathology and Genetics. During those years I was completely hooked by proteins’ world, getting close to electrophoresis and then mass spectrometry, thanks to Professor Iadarola. I am very proud of that time of my life, ending up in a Research Fellowship focused on the same project as the PhD.

In July 2011 my experience in LabAnalysis began as a mass spectrometer specialist.
At first I started as an operator, but after just one year I was promoted to HL Area Manager. As time went on, my responsibilities increased, as did my team. Since 2019 I am officially a Coordinator.

The biggest lesson you learned as a Coordinator?

Never take anything for granted. It is important to live the present, because everything can change, everything can end and everything can begin. I have learned that each person needs to be understood and contextualized in order to best organize the work and create a stimulating environment. In general, I am convinced that there is always learning to be done!

Do you have other passions besides your work?

I support my parents in running the farm, and I am interested in technological innovations in this area. I am passionate about photography and am attracted to the tech world. I am equipped to do small DIY jobs and minor repairs.
