Commitment to innovation.

Giuseppe Corsica

HSE Manager / RSPP e PM Sales

What did you want to do when you were a child?

As a child, I had a fixed idea of becoming a civilian airplane pilot, so much so that to this day I still stop and watch the planes go over my head. It has remained a strong passion. As I grew up, however, I developed an interest in chemistry in all its forms, probably because all the people closest to me - parents, relatives, friends - worked in this field. Thus, as early as the first years of high school, I embarked on this path with enthusiasm and eagerness to discover. The passion for chemistry took over in later adulthood and led me to study Industrial Chemistry at the University of Bologna, with a specialization in the environmental field - a path of which I am proud and proud, because it is extremely interesting and challenging.

What characteristics do you look for, when you are searching for new people for your team?

Working in both sales and HSE, I have the pleasure of collaborating with colleagues from multiple departments, with distinct characteristics and dynamics. I have learned, in fact, that a team is made up of a group of people with different skills and personalities, united by the goal, which must be very precise, common and shared. The perfect functioning of a "team working," therefore, depends on a whole series of processes, both psychological, motivational and practical. Therefore, certainly the aspects I look for in a person concern the character and human side, even before the professional one. This is because I believe that first and foremost we are people, not roles - a fundamental concept even for communication between colleagues. On the technical side, of course, skills are needed and indispensable, but I almost take it for granted that there is, at the base, experience and in-depth knowledge. The best results, however, are achieved by having employees next to you who are open to discussion, who have willingness, interest and curiosity. Only with these ingredients is complicity created.
I fortunately, whether in the role of Commercial PM or RHSE/RSPP, to date, can claim that I work in qualified and challenging teams

If you had to choose just one of your job positions, what would you choose?

It is a difficult choice; I love both roles. Since I'm very human-centered, even in business, I would say maybe I would choose the sales role. I love relationships and being around people. I like to "cuddle" with customers and have discussions with them. For me, the greatest satisfaction is seeing the customer satisfied, or amazed (!). And the Sales PM must undoubtedly be a person with a strong technical knowledge of the activities carried out by the Group, but he or she must also be a person used to being with people. I believe that sales is a relationship work for human beings enthusiasts, and not for product enthusiasts. The satisfactions, in this field, come when you take care of your customers' goals, since they will then take care of yours. It is also important to be "malleable," versatile, curious and innovative, to be able to adapt even to unpredictable situations, and to take advantage of market opportunities with a little improvisation. And I feel these characteristics are very close to my person.

In HSE, on the other hand, everything is much more rational. It's about complying with regulations and requirements, so the technical side of this role is key, along with problem solving skills and the ability to simplify complex pathways. Although the human side is not absent, since, in any case, you have to take care of the safety of your colleagues, and relate to each of them on different aspects. Fortunately, I have very good collaborators who support me on a daily basis.

What are the values that characterize you as a manager?

I would love to ask my closest colleagues and collaborators this question, but I can imagine their response...they would probably say that I am extremely helpful, professional, and a perfectionist.
Thinking about it, I would say that the key aspect of working with maximum results is to have the ability to create a team, and to have complicity with the collaborators. You have to make sure that you get them passionate, so that there is unity and vision on a path that leads to a common goal. For this, I was saying earlier, in addition to technical knowledge, the human side is also important. From my point of view, a good manager is not the one who imposes choices or gives orders, but the one who listens and collaborates and then takes responsibility for a choice, directing everyone else. You have to make people feel understood, and the first step is definitely listening. I consider myself a good listener.

How did you find LabAnalysis?

After graduating in chemistry, I chose to major in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Bologna. Soon after, in 2004, I had the opportunity to work in a laboratory in Naples. I took my first steps in Environment, Safety and Quality, as well as holding the position of laboratory technician. Soon after, I started my career as a sales technician in parallel, interfacing with my first customers. Then I returned to Pescara/Chieti, continuing to deepen the same aspects in a well-known environmental and safety consulting firm, particularly for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 auditing services. In January 2007 I arrived at LabAnalysis, we were just 50 employees. Initially, I served as a sales engineer and consultant in environment and safety. After a few years of experience, I left consulting to take on the role of RHSE/RSPP. A role that I still perform daily along with that of PM Commercial, surrounded by a great team of employees.
