Commitment to innovation.

Roberto Magnani

PPSM - HSE Manager

What are you particularly passionate about right now?

There’s not one job in particular. Maybe ‘cause I’ve been with the company for 42 years and I’ve been lucky enough to work on so many projects… all of them are exciting!

You have definitely contributed to the company’s history! Tell us more!

I was here when the company was founded. There were basically only three of us: Prof. Maggi (Luigino Maggi, ed), Dr. Massara (Isella Massara, Professor’s wife, ed) and me. We went on alone till 1985, when we got the first building, adding people – colleagues – to the laboratory. From there we began the evolution that has brought us to today.

We started with the environmental sector (water, gas emissions, waste, soil) and with some QC in the pharma sector. Those were the years of the first regulations and companies were quite new on how to comply to them. That was the moment when the company began the expansion that led us where we are.

What about your background instead? What’s your scientific journey?

I’m an industrial chemical expert. I graduated in Casalpusterlengo (Lodi, Italy). I then tried to enroll in University, but the job-study experience made me give up. Those were difficult years for me, I had just lost my father and I couldn’t quit my job.

My desire for knowledge, however, has never stopped and has found other ways. In addition to the experience gained on the field, I have dedicated myself to specific training courses, especially in recent years.

What about people management? What’s your experience?

Okay, that’s a tricky question! (he laughs, ed)

Beyond our organizational charts, I’m not really in a hierarchy. In addition to the role of PPSM and HSE I follow a lot of different activities, which entail a lot of responsibility.

Thanks to the experience I gained in these years, I must say that communication and empathy are the most important skills to have and to nurture. Within a team it may happen not to be on the same page, but explaining and solving the problem together is the easiest and the most correct approach.

Where do you see you and LabAnalysis in the future?

I think I’ll be retired! (he laughs, ed)

As for the company, it definitely has a great future ahead. I am a living witness of a great expansion and a smart decision making. Every new challenge improves our knowledge and our problem-solving skills. And this improvement leads to growth.

You know what’s the real big thing? International markets. Going abroad. I’m really curious to see how we’ll win that match!
