Commitment to innovation.

Stefania Rai

Quality Assurance Manager - Pharma & GLP

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I didn’t have a clear idea, when I was a kid. I remember I wanted a creative job. Today I’m in Quality Assurance and it would sound like it’s the exact opposite of what I desired. Actually, all things considered, my job needs quite often to think outside the box.

What’s your scientific journey?

I graduated in 1997 in Chemistry at the University of Pavia (Pavia, Italy), with a specialization in Analytical Chemistry. I started working in analytical laboratories for quality control in food and environment. I later got into Quality Assurance in the testing laboratory accreditation area. In 2004 I moved to LabAnalysis – in QA again – in order to broaden my work experience and challenge myself in a more complex company.

LabAnalysis gave me the opportunity to work not only in the field of accreditation of testing laboratories, but also to gain experience in other quality systems such as the application of GMP guidelines (pharma-wise) and GLP for non-clinical studies.

Today, I’m in charge of the Management System for the Pharma Division and the GLP Assay Center. My function allows me to have a direct contact with the Management, the Qualified Personnel and the Assay Center Management. The QA Unit is composed of responsible and willing people. That’s a close-knit group and this allows us to work with commitment and dedication.

In over 18 years here in LabAnalysis I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to work alongside both Dr. Massara and Prof. Maggi (LabAnalysis’ founders, ndr). They allowed me to grow professionally and on a human level. Their dedication is priceless to me.

Is there anything you’re particularly excited about right now?

We’re currently working on several projects with the aim to optimize management activities as much as possible, ensuring total compliance with regulatory requirements. Work is challenging but exciting!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s very challenging. This company has grown and expanded considerably and quickly in the last few years. Certainly the work has never been repetitive or boring: we always face new challenges!

What characteristics should your ideal colleagues have?

Sincerity and fairness are essential requirements. It’s important to be surrounded by people ready to test themselves, passionate about their work and capable to face every task assigned with no fear. We need a positive outlook. That’s why no one is left alone to face an activity: the QA Unit is a Team!

Problems should be overcome together through confrontation and dialogue. Having the possibility to count on colleagues with those qualities allows you to have enough peace of mind to do anything!
