Commitment to innovation.

Viviana Baratti

Head of Physics Sector

What do you like most about the work you are doing in LabAnalysis?

I am fortunate to do an extremely varied job; boredom is never part of my day. I deal with both physical agents in the work environment and with acoustics and modeling of air pollutants and odor in the outdoor environment, completely different areas. Within the physical sector we also have an area that deals with controls within clean rooms and controlled environments such as hospitals, pharmaceutical industries, etc. This allows us to further expand the areas of work in the sector.
I have been working in LabAnalysis for almost twenty years: I started as an Area Operator and then became first an Area Manager, then a Section Manager, and finally an Area Manager. This has allowed me to learn about all the different aspects of the work we do, from field work to organizational management.
I find it stimulating to participate in the management of large projects, such as Monitoring Plans for major works: in fact, at the beginning they always represent a challenge, also because it is often necessary to coordinate with several other sectors, but they always leave us with a broader background of experience and skills.

How did you come to work at LabAnalysis?

After I graduated in Physics in Pavia, I took the interesting Manager domani training course in Milan.
After taking a course in Computer Science I started working in this field with a company in Pavia, but quickly realized that it was not what I wanted to do in life.
I casually came to know about the existence of LabAnalysis and sent my resume, knowing that physics graduates were also working there. One day I got a call from Dr. Massara, who had worked for quite some time at the Physics Department of the University of Pavia, who asked to work directly with her in the physics and security department, recently founded by her. I worked for two or three years purely in the security area and then moved completely to the physical agents area, which was more inherent to my studies and aspirations.
The area has expanded over time with the arrival of other colleagues - some of them friends from my university days - so it was easy to create a peaceful and collaborative working atmosphere. At the moment we are a team of twelve technicians in Pavia and we collaborate with other technicians in the other offices located throughout Italy.

How would you describe your role?

I am currently the Head of Physics Sector. We deal with various areas: monitoring and consulting related to physical agents in work environments (in particular noise, vibrations, electromagnetic fields, optical radiation, microclimate, illuminance, ultrasound, infrasound and radon), environmental physics (acoustics: phonometric surveys, noise impact forecasts, acoustic remediation, remediation plans, acoustic zoning; air pollutant dispersion and odor simulations with dedicated software) and controls within the controlled environments of pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic industries, hospitals, etc.
Regarding the latter activities, LabAnalysis has the added value of being able to combine the microbiological analysis part as well so that it can offer a 360-degree service.
In addition, I support the salespeople in the elaboration of offers related to the services we provide, I take care of the logistics and organization of the work of the technicians and also the processing of documents.
I am fortunate to be surrounded by extremely reliable and competent people, to whom I can delegate specific tasks and projects with the assurance that the work will be done in the best possible way.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned as a Manager?

First of all, I have learned that in order to create a peaceful working climate, it is essential that everyone is willing to cooperate and support each other. I try, therefore, to set this example myself. Indeed, working serenity and cooperation make it possible to better resolve the inevitable technical glitches that may arise and consequently improve productivity.
In addition, I found the People Management course I took in previous years very useful: having always dealt mainly with the technical part of the job, it was important to delve into the managerial and personnel management aspect. This course allowed me to understand that devoting time also to the relational aspect of the job always leads to a positive return.
